To be a Saint is to be a champion. None in Kalimdor dare mention the name, should they be reminded of the atrocities of the past...

Saints are expected to be ruthless in matters of war and death, yet in the name of peace...To have the courage to stand up for oneself, yet maintain humility...

Seek justice and integrity in his daily dealings, while deep down knowing that the final blood will be spilled from his blade...

Azeroth needs us... Do you have what it takes to be a legend in... The Saints of Saurfang?

New ranking system

Posted by PhugaluDecember 31, 2009 at 9:37 am

Happy Newyear to everyone! I wish you all the best for 2010 and lots of killing, questing, raiding, socialising, ... in our guild.
A new start always brings some new improvements too. We are about to change our ranking system to get people more focussed on raiding. A first small gathering with High Councelors has been done already to set a new ranking system up. Below you will see what we achieved with our brainstorming.

- Newcomers will get the "Recruit" ranking for 4 weeks to work themselves into the guild and for us to get to know them better. If you don't fit in for a reason you will be asked to leave or you will get kicked. This ranking gives you no benefits.
- Levels 1  - 39 will be "Nomadic Saint" and will have limited access to the guild bank tabs.
- From level 40 - 79 you will be a "Saint" and your access to the guildbank will increase slightly.
- Once you become level 80 it's all about your dedication to how much you really would like to raid. If you show you are gearing up fast by doing heroics to gather gear and emblems you will no longer be a "Saint" but you'll become a "Champion Saint" in no time. You will receive NO invites for these two high level raids: Trial of the Crusader and Icrecrown Citadel, if you are a "Saint". You CAN get invites however for Ulduar and Naxxramas and equally levelled smaller raids.

Being a "Champion Saint"  means the following:

- Champion Saint:

Have at least 3 items with item level 245 which can be bought with Emblems of Triumph from Arcanist Miluria in The Silver Enclave in Dalaran (an off-hand, helm, waist, shoulders, ring and trinket) or any of the vendors at the Argent Tournament Grounds, all other items in your slots should be at least epic items of item level 200.
Once you meet these requirements you will have to contact a High Councelor or the Guild Master to check your gear out. Your guilbank access will increase.

- Once geared from doing simple heroics you will have the chance to become a "Guardian Saint" by doing casual raids. Requirements to become a "Guardian Saint" are the following:

- Guardian Saint:

You participate casually in raids and your gear slightly improves. You still don't have all the best gems and enchants yet for your gear, or you don't have your professions maxed out yet. You have no access to the guildbank raid tab yet, but If you need materials from the guildbank raid tab to improve any of these professions or for yourself, you will have to ask a High Councelor or the Guild Master for those items. However you will be able to deposit items in it.
You will have lower priority to join a raid than an "Heroic Saint" but if you do join a raid you have the benefit of getting 1g discount per repair per day during or after a raid. Abuse of this benefit by using repair money without doing a raid will not be tolerated. You have all the needed addons for your class and spec and Deadly Boss Mod installed.
If you feel like you're ready to become a "Guardian Saint ", contact a High Councelor or the Guild Master for it and he or she will make a decision.

- A "Guardian Saint" will have the opportunity to become an "Heroic Saint"  when he or she shows a lot of dedication to raiding and gearing up.

- Heroic Saint:

You are geared up from doing casual raids to be able to do the high end raids in Trial of the Crusader and Icecrown Citadel without a problem, you have all the best enchants and gems on each item and in each slot and your primary professions and your cooking profession maxed out. You show up in raids that you signed up to, you know a lot of tactics already and you understand your character, your talent build, your gear, ... you show that your main cause is having fun while raiding and you're prepared to check on tactics if needed, to bring the necessary flasks, reagents and potions for yourself, and food buffs for the raid. You have all the needed addons for your class and spec and Deadly Boss Mod installed.
An "Heroic Saint" gets the benefit of having a 5g discount per repair per day during or after a raid and y ou have access to the guildbank raid tab.
Abuse of this benefit by using repair money without doing a raid will not be tolerated.
You will have the ability to create guild events in calendar.
If you feel like you're ready to become an "Heroic Saint ", contact a High Councelor or the Guild Master for it and he or she will make a decision.

- High Councelor:

They are the people that actually take the initiative to run this guild by organising and leading raids for example.
They get a 15g discount per repair per day during or after a raid. Abuse of this benefit by using repair money without doing a raid will not be tolerated.
They have the ability to invite people to the guild or kick people from the guild, they can make guild events in calendar, promote and demote people, edit notes, set message of the day, use officer chat, modify info on guildbank tabs, ... in short they have more or less the same abilities as the Guild Master.
To become a "High Councelor" you will have to prove that you are valuable to the guild on the management and organising part. If you think you could be a valuable asset to the guild and should become a "High Councelor", contact the Guild Master for it.

- FAQ:

- "What with ranking alts?"
Alts will count as a seperate person so that alts can benefit from the repair discount as well. If you raid a lot on one character which is ranked "Heroic Saints" but you do a raid with a character that doesn't have that rank, thus can not the benefit from discounts for repairs yet, contact a High Councelor or the Guild Master about it. The alt has to have the gear requirements to be able to join a specific raid.

- "If I leave (join) the guild should(can) I leave with (bring) my alts too?"
No you can't leave your alts in our guild when you leave the guild with your main character. If we are not the guild you are looking for for your main character than that obviously counts for your alts too. If you don't take your alts with you they will be kicked instead. And yes, you can bring your alts into our guild when you join us.

-"I am level 80 and I just joined the guild."
You will start off as a "Recruit" and according to the ranking requirements above you will get promotions. You will have to prove in a 1 month  trial period that you're worth a specific ranking.

- "What about the guildbank money?"
What goes out most come in first too, so all the gold repairs will have to come from somewhere to keep our gold up. Therefore we will have a High Councelor organising a weekly lottery starting from february . A small percentage of that lottery goes into the guildbank, the rest goes to the winner of the weekly lottery. More info on the lottery will be given soon. Of course we still count on generosity of the guild members to keep our gold up. Guildbank money will also be used by the Guild Master to get specific items such as flasks, drums, etc... for raiding.

- "Can I get demoted?"
Yes, you can. If you're evolving backwards instead of forwards in coming online, joining raids, getting better gear, gems or enchants for a long time, ... you can get demoted thus you will lose your ranking benefits.

- "What do I need to know about raiding?"
There is a raid thread on our website with all the necessary basic information. You can find this thread by clicking HERE

- "When will the new ranking system come into effect?"
The new ranking system will go into effect on the1st of february (1 month from now)!!

All level 80's have started off as a "Saint" and will get a 1 month trial to prove they are worth a specific higher ranking.
An evaluation will be done, and all level 80's will get their ranking accordingly. Contact a High Councelor or the Guild Master if you are not happy with the ranking you will have obtained and we will try to work something out.

- Any questions or related things that aren't clear to you, ask our Guild Master or post them in the related post HERE

Plagueworks

Posted by PhugaluDecember 30, 2009 at 8:59 am
Plagueworks is the second wing of Icecrown Citadel that is due to open its doors on the 6th of january on the European servers. The abominations in there will sure have heard of us by now after we whooped their colleagues' asses in The Lower Spire. So here's a little heads up about the wing.

The Plagueworks is an area inside the west side of Icecrown Citadel it is an area connected to the rest of the instance by the Spire surrounding the Frozen Throne in the middle level of the zone.

The Plagueworks is a laboratory for creation of potions, vials and containers of the Plague of Undeath and blight slimes. It is also the factory where several Abominations and horrific scourge creations are made. Professor Putricide is the leader of the Plagueworks.

 Festergut

Festergut along with his "brother" Rotface, wants to make their daddy (Professor Putricide) proud of killing the raid

Realm rank

We found this nice realm guild ranking feature to see how our guild is progressing in 10 man raids on our very own server. The feature comes from this website: http://www.guildox.com and gives an accurate update on all kinds of raiding progressions and achievements on our realm. As you can see on the right side of our homepage, our ranking is 0 at the moment but I expect this to be updated soon. I can tell you that our current rank is 32 for 10 man raids (inclusive Horde guilds), and 18 for 25 man raids.
From now on you can check our website and you'll be up to date on how we are doing raid wise on our cosy little server.
Let's get us some more achievements and aim for the top 20 in 10 man raids and top 10 for 25 man raids next! Icecrown Citadel is in our pocket already anyway ;)

Please yourself with putting our last updated raid progress signatures such as these into any profile signature box.

I'm back...........

Posted by SamoanspiderDecember 2, 2009 at 7:31 am
Its been a while, but after many changes in my life, I now have time available again to update the website properly. Looks like its come just at the right time as I'm getting word from several websites that Patch 3.3 is to drop next week. Whilst I'm under no illusion that we'll be wiping on boss 1 in Icecrown, I'm up for a laugh and will happily make an arse of myself along with the rest of the A team on day 1.

In other news, the last few weeks has seen some pretty big leaps and bounds for the guild. We're clearing Totc with regularity, Ony 10 is a 15 minute affair and Ulduar will soon be ours, with 25 man following soon I'm sure. Ony 25 fell to a large number of saints recently and I'm fairly certain that once we have a few more people in the top geared category, we'll be seeing an all star Totc25 group starting to learn the ropes. Things are looking good.

The next thing is more of a request. I get the feeling sometimes that a lot of guildies aren't all that keen to help others; I'd like to remind people we are a social guild with interests in high end raiding. We are not elitist. Please be more mindful of others and help if you can or at the very least, be polite. You dont have to drop everything to help, but sometimes just to acknowledge the request of others means more than the help itself. So even if you're saved to an instance, dont have time or aren't in the mood, just say it. Otherwise we're going to start losing people and I don't just mean new people, I'm talking the lifers who've been with the saints since the start or close to it.

Anyway, I see good things ahead. See you on the other side.

New video forum!

Posted by PhugaluNovember 6, 2009 at 10:06 am
More and more often our guild will record achievements and raid runs from The Saints of Saurfang.
Therefore we have our very own video section in the forum from now on so that you can relive all our epic (and less epic) victories in World of Warcraft.
Feel free to contribute videos you made yourself as well. If you don't know how the heck you can make such videos but would like to learn how to make them, ask Phugalu for a tutorial and he'd be happy to help you out.
Enjoy our glorious wipes.... err.... victories HERE!!

New Raid tactics section

Posted by SamoanspiderOctober 30, 2009 at 10:15 am
Looking left towards the navigation bar you will notice 'Raid Tactics' has appeared. This is a work in progress response to a feeling i've had for a little while about the clutter in the forum. Since I have had comments from a couple of guild members about it, I thought its time for a change. So there it is. Only Totc10/25 is up at the moment, but the rest will appear in time.

If you find there is extra info you'd like to see in there, then let me know and I'll add it in. This system is very flexible and doesn't require searching all over the forum to find things, you click the details for the raid you're participating in, watch the video and read the tactics. Then head on over to the forum to the dated raid post made by the raid leader and respond saying you know the tactics. Then if you turn up to the raid and dont know anything, we can kick you and get someone who does! Happy days.

UPDATE - All Wrath of the Lich King raids are now complete in the raid tactics section. Please check the tactics and reply to the post in the forum for the raid you are joining. All current raid tactics posts are to be moved and locked.

Uh oh!

Well whilst trawling the net during some downtime, I have discovered this little nugget. Scary news for tanks and healers alike. I love the smell of wipes in the morning!

For Icecrown Citadel, we are implementing a spell that will affect every enemy creature in the raid. The spell, called Chill of the Throne, will allow creatures to ignore 20% of the dodge chance of their melee targets. So if a raid's main tank had 30% dodge normally, in Icecrown Citadel they will effectively have 10%.

Why are we doing this?

The high levels of tank avoidance players have obtained is making the incoming damage a tank DOES take more "spiky" than is healthy for raiding. Ideally, tanks would be receiving a relatively constant stream of damage over time. This allows healers to better plan their healing strategy, broaden their spell options, and simply give more time to react. Tanks could use their cooldowns more reactively. Instead, the current situation is that if we make a hard hitting melee boss and a tank doesn't avoid two successive swings then the tank could very well be dead in that 1-2 second window. The use of reactive defensive abilities instead becomes a methodically planned affair, healers have to spam their largest heals just in case the huge damage spike happens.

We've been trying to do a fair amount to mitigate the effect of high tank avoidance on the encounter side of things during this expansion with faster melee swings, additional melee strikes, dual wielding, narrowing the normal variance of melee swing damage, and various other tricks. There's a limit to what we can do, however. So to give us a bit of breathing room we've implemented Chill of the Throne. Going forward past Icecrown Citadel, we have plans to keep tank avoidance from growing so high again.

We'll have this on the PTR soon so players can see the effects inside Icecrown Raid.

Boredom

Its a bit of a slow news week so far. Not really that much that I can mention. The raid interface for the LFG option in Patch 3.3 has surfaced and promises to locate people cross realm to join us. A few new snippets of information have cropped up, but certainly nothing to get overly excited about. If anyone has anything they would like mentioned, drop me an in game mail and i'll make sure it gets on here.

See you on the other side
